MADE ME MORE HUMAN
I’ve always been a people person—so
much so that I chose to study Accounts and Finance just because all my friends
were taking up that course.
College
was exactly how I imagined it—bunking lectures, chilling with my gang, and
studying a day before exams. Life was smooth, predictable, and flying by.
Before I knew it, I was in my last semester.
One
evening, I was heading home in my dad’s car, stuck in the usual traffic, the
radio playing softly in the background. My dad and I were having one of those
small, everyday conversations when suddenly, it hit me—hard.
Accounts
and Finance toh le liya, but ab aage kya?
The
question gripped me. My mind spiraled into overthinking, and before I realized
it, the conversation had faded into silence. All I could hear was the radio…
and my own thoughts, hammering away.
Aage
kya? Aage kya?
And
then—TANN! (A bell rang, or maybe just in my head.)
Wait.
This. This is what I want to do.
People talk, they play songs, they connect with listeners—and they get paid for
it?
I had been doing this for free in my college group all along!
That
day, with absolutely no plan, no clue, just an instinct—I decided I would join
radio.
It’s
been almost five years now.
Today,
I know Sunita, who is single and takes the train to Bandra every day. I know
Ashfaq, who owns a small garage and listens to us without fail.
Through
these voices, these stories, and these connections, radio didn’t just teach me
broadcasting—it taught me empathy.
Because
when you’re left alone, trying to feel the pulse of the city, it doesn’t just
make you better at what you do.
It makes you more human.
HAPPY WORLD RADIO DAY!
Making people (strangers) smile is a blessing you can have, while working! Keep making those connections and people smile :)
