EXPIRED CHOCOLATE

Today, I was cleaning my closet. Somewhere between old receipts and a pile of forgotten medicines, I found an expired packet of chocolate. Now, I love chocolates—a little too much. They’re my comfort, my little reward after a long day. So, finding one should’ve made me happy. But this one? It was expired. The wrapper was still shiny, but inside, I knew it had lost its taste.

For a second, I thought, Should I still eat it? Maybe it’s not that bad.To be honest, this wasn’t the first time I had found this pack. Every time I saw it, I noticed it was expired, yet I kept putting it back. It had been lying around for far too long.

But I knew better….It wasn’t just about the chocolate. It was about how we hold on to things long after they’ve lost their sweetness. We all have an expired packet of chocolate in our lives….a friendship that’s turned bitter,a job that no longer excites us,a habit we’ve outgrown but still carry around out of comfort. We know it doesn’t serve us anymore. Yet, we let it stay. Unopened. Unwanted.

Maybe we’re afraid to admit it’s over. Maybe we think, What if it’s still okay?  So, we keep it around, letting it take up space—whether in our cupboards, our minds, or our hearts.

But here’s the thing: expired things don’t get better with time. They just sit there, taking up space where something fresh could be.So today, I did what I should’ve done long ago—I threw that chocolate away and maybe, now, it’s time to let go of a few other things too.
